the entry that's shitezful of my indulgences

i don't know what is it about supermarkets, but there's something spiritually restorative about being in one. perhaps it's the hypnotic droning of the air-conditioner, or the brightly-lit-till-you-look-pasty (i.e. ill-fitting) lightings, i never fail to leave the place a happier, contented person. welcome to a land of vacuum wrapped perishables and carton-fresh dairy produce: it's my economically-viable form of retail therapy.

got root beer? this brown sarsaparilla concoction has tugged me at my heartstrings ever since i first got a smack of it at the local marche's. called bundaberg, an australian brewed drink, it continues to subdue my thirst in every way possible that a fulfilling romp session could never.

suffering from a sore throat? an itch in the esophageal region? or just a case of halitosis from "heatiness"/inadequate rest/stress? fret not, just drink your weight in oldenlandia water and your malaise of the larynx will be allayed pronto. some folks like their green vial with a dash of salt, but i will do mine on the rocks anytime. i have no clue what this elixir is composed of but the literal translation of its mandarin counterpart, "snake-grass water", might faintly (and grotesquely) give an idea, though i remain largely unconvinced.

this aisle is my best-loved. which can of fermented malted barley do i heart thee most? it's a three-way tie between asahi super-dry, sapporo (from the tap) and heneiken.

i always fancy a little treat of european descent. so when i was working as a bumbling flight attendant, an aerial version of a poseur, i always would purchase some of these: hanuta nutmeat wafers, giotto chocolate balls, and this brand of nougat. they were relatively inexpensive in frankfurt, and i would stockpile my luggage with loads of them.

of course, with my new diet regime has come to be, it basically means the above-mentioned areas are off-limits. bummer! cow's lactate and soymilk are my next best perennial pals, and not forgetting having a go at this deliciously nutritious malt drink.

look at these melons! (no pun intended)

(leon koh) let's go together?

(rex) woah, and at first i still thought that you got that load of information from wikipedia or something. you actually gotten that off the back of your head???? impressed!!!!

(tyc) isn't it just delish??

iruffcookiedough said...

(kp) nope, i haven't, and i can't, well, at least not for the moment. maybe in december? why? oh you know why. >.<

(dan) yes i know, father dan. just craving for it, that's why i wrote about it. eschewing it as much as possible, =]

(z) hasn't it always the case? i'm pretty surprised that many ppl actually love bundaberg. my soulmates!! awww..... =]

(kev c.s. grocer) thanks to you pointing that out, i actually revisited the grocer and checked out the fat content of the malt drink, it's 1.4-1.5% fat, less than half the content found in milk. so there yiou have it. hey, i used to dig watching supermarket sweep too! and you'd think only singaporeans are the "kiasu" folks.

iruffcookiedough said...

(singapoor) now i am regretting writing about this entry. everyone is depicting their indulgences, and i can only relish salivating, but not actually indulging. dang!

(oceanic) will you do that for me? could you throw in some giotto as well? and the comet iced tea drink?

kooky: we should get together and try my cherry amaretto turnover lol. no, supermarket sweep is a gameshow that takes place in a supermarket. teams have to answer questions to earn time and money. they will then have the chance to take turns to run through the supermarket and grab items before their time is up. the team with the highest spend wins the cash! it's more exciting than this of course. there are bonus games, prizes and surprises announce during their run through the store. you really have to strategise in order to grab the expensive items!

singapoor: I heart cedele! my fave is the banana espresso choc although carrot cake comes really close.

des: i'm taking it on to be the voice of conscience and make sure u stick to your diet. no sneaking in a bottle or 2 of heineken at the supermarket ok? too bad the show is ended, I would so fly us to the States to take part. It would be so cool to grind coffee, grab a jolly green giant and load those humoungous turkeys into our carts!

kOoKy pLuM said...

des: i know why..uh huh uh huh...

kev: oh yeah i remember i used to get hungry watching the show coz of the turkeys!! yes the turkeys!! they looked so yummy..

cherry amaretto turnover..yyyuummm!! i should bake some strawberry cream cheese cupcakes..

ok lets no make des hungry and break his diet.. u can do it!

iruffcookiedough said...

(kev) i am sure we can relive those moments with online games that somehow, for some uncanny reasons, might be akin to supermarket sweep.

(kp) till december then!!!

(rex) i can't help it, i am sorry, wikipedia is my guru. i went to wiki oldenlandia, and i got this. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oldenlandia. check it out.

Rex said...

(no name) i believe that y-3 is currently being sold at four season's club 21. but i think they might be having a flagship store over at ION, the new upcoming shopping centre (*crosses fingers*). and dsquared too.
