the entry of revelations after midnight

given that tariffs for electricity will be jacked up another 21% (for whatever apparent reason, my vacuous mind and i are not aware), my entire household is on a frenzied campaign to ensure that not a single watt gets wasted through the habit of negligent nonchalance. dad even went as far as to impose an embargo on the usage of air-conditioner within the premises 24/7. and the weather is not even letting up. it has been nothing but extreme sweat-pouring-from-the-pores humid these few weeks. so don't be surprised if you spot a topless homo sapien sporting a rounded paunch traipsing within the vicinity of my hovel, chances are you've just spotted me.

and as if that's not bad news enough, even the land-line operators are jumping onto the bandwagon of vigilant extortion. local call charges are up, for a reported increase of up to 8.7%. i am pretty sure these corporations already have a well-prepared sermon, documenting every possible reason to leech our cash during this oh-so-timely economic upheaval. i am this close to shout out words (read: expletives) that do not feature highly on my vocabulary. feh, fuck that.

moving on to other unrelated news...

i apologize for the lack of segue to what i am writing next, but i am kinda scatter-brained in the early hours of the morning. as we all know, humans are creatures of habits. through perpetuated repetitions, we form habits which become instinctive, thus second nature. a couple of things i would like to see myself follow through, which hopefully would become good habits through reiterated, conscious inculcation.

* sleep before midnight, or at least adhere to it during workdays.
* learn the basics of baby talk. this is especially effective when conversing with my nephew-to-be.
* talk back less. i have been made aware that i am pretty dominant in arguments.
* learn to say no, the right way. rejection rather than lead on.
* know and acknowledge quiet confidence, but let no ego get in the way.
* save amicability on people who don't deserve it. they are just not worth it.

i am quite convinced there are a couple more things i would like to see changed about myself. i will update accordingly as and when.

yeah, that was what i read. i have not heard the droning of my dual horsepower starmex for the longest time already, let alone turn it on everyday...

Hahaha... So cute. Don't know why I find this entry cute... Prolly due to the use of adjectives and exaggerated sentences.

Erm... Habits when formed are actually quite hard to change. You need a real good reason to change it and be really determined to do so. Point 1 is my 'bad' habit too.

Ah, there's this programme on Channel U hosted by Evelyn Tan that's all about babies and stuff. Prolly your family and yourself should watch it to get better prepared for the new-born.

I can see a strong urge in you to change yourself. Though I don't know what's your reason, it's always good to improve ourselves. =) ga-yao!

May I just say that I'm quite flabbergasted with the way you write. Your use of hifaluting words just astounds me! :) Is it because you just write very well (which apparently a skill I have yet to learn! haha)? Walao, I can just imagine how eloquent you are!

Anyway, change starts from your heart (whoa! haha!). You don't need to force yourself so that others will like you. :D I'm sure there's a good self in you, although I am starting to feel (with the way you write) that indeed you are very arguing. HAHA

And please, don't do baby talk. Talk to the baby in short simple phrases :) It promotes language development. Babytalking does otherwise. :p (Trust me, I am a quack doctor. Haha.)

(763092) isn't point 1 many ppl's habit? and we are always trying to snap out of it? but somehow we always leave point 1 out of the loop don't we?

(rex) didn't know the environmentalist in you, well, all the better to help you in your quest, since hot weather = more calorie burning.

(singapoor) i am quite impressed too with your words. i don't even know what hifaluting means. i can only imagine it to be something good.

Haha, and since when have my words been impressive? Lol.

Anyway, saw from your previous posts your painful diet. ehem. Need to do that too, but I guess my motivation was thrown out of the window. Haha :-) Alright fitness guru, I'll see if you can do it. Saw a book in the library, I'll try to religiously follow it. LOL

Cheers!

Point 1 is many people's habit but that doesn't mean these people regard it as a bad habit. It can be a habit or just a choice of personal lifestyle too. That's why I put it as my 'bad' habit 'cos it isn't really my bad habit but choice of my lifestyle and prolly partial I regard as moi bad habit. So confusing? =P

I want to have the same habits for #1, 4 & 6 as well, especially for #4 & 6.

#4 allows me not to hurt others & #6 allows me not to hurt myself.

Btw, I am so sure you will be a good uncle coz u are the only one who I know does bother to learn baby talk. good job, uncle Des. :)

(singapoor) it does sound painful alright. painful to my appetite that is. anyways, when you say you're gonna religiously follow your new diet, does it mean it's only gonna be on seasons like christmas and hanukkah? ><

(763092) it sounds pretty confusing the way you put it. so you are saying that many ppl don't think much about sleeping late?

(kp) here's a way to help. no matter how late you sleep for the day, wake up real early the following day, say 7 or 8 in the morning. stay awake the entire day, engage in some cardio activities. you will be out like a light by midnight.

iruffcookiedough said...

(rex) does it involve sitting on the bike and munching away at chips? hehe

(no name) i didn't know we're that similar in character. about being an uncle, i am kinda ambivalent now that it's drawing to a near.

Anonymous said...

think laying off the all night mahjong sessions would help too.... :)

kOoKy pLuM said...

am i kp? Kim Possible? lol... yeah i do that all that time coz i have lectures in morning... but nah i think my habit is abit hardcore..

Anonymous said...

yes, i also don’t know that we’re that similar in character.

our problem is we used to believe in sincerity and naturally we easily trust others. After we kept trying but kept failing, we realized what we used to believe in might not be the truth. End up; we want to have 4 & 6.

However, it may not be easy for us to do that. Reason is our characters decide the way we act and think. it is not easy for us to hide our true feelings. anyway, do our best and good luck to us.

Sorry, talk too much. This is supposed to your blog but not mine. :(

Hello Uncle!

Well thanks for that advice. May you be an inspiration to us, sedentarists.. Hahahaha!!! :) I found this interesting book, Body for Life. Quite ambitious though. We'll see. :p

See you around!

(kp) how about kate perry? that sounds very current, doesn't it?

(no name) argh, it's ok with me that you indulge us what your feelings. after all, isn't a blog for you to channel your frustrations?

(rex) good that you don't like snacking by nature, but actually snacking from time to time is actually good. that is, if you snack the right stuff, like protein bars, nuts, etc.

(singapoor) i've had that book like forever. it's now sitting on my shelf pretty, amassing my library of books ... and dust. but it's quite good and the workout regimes do work! give it a shot, bill philips-to-be

Rex said...

Hey heyz!
Hmmm, saving on energy definitely is something my family is trying hard to practise too! Nothing as regimental as ur Pops though...(thank God heh)

Humans are creatures of habits indeed. I've been resolving to sleep before midnight too...since like 3 yrs ago.... sigh

Well, so much for my will of steel... Here's to another round of resolution to work for a better bod and to change undesirable traits!

Cheers!

kooky: here's my usual tip for sleepless clients - try rubbing some essential oil on your temples before you sleep or massage it on your neck. no caffeine or food 3 hours before sleep as well. should konk out soon after.

rex: try substituting with canned soup or fruit salads. I got so used to Marks and Spencers soups when I was in London for work in Jul. They're really healthy (and cheap!) None of that crap Campbell's stuff.

des: dibs? meaning the food i'm making or the money u think u'll be winning from me? :)

Anonymous said...

and listen to Piano Spa... seriously.

Rex said...

kev: thanks man~ I like mushroom canned soup! I bought quite a lot last time, nowaday lazy to cook for myself~ XD thanks thanks

rex: do check out the M&S range. there are about 12 types. i recommend the cream of tomato, and carrot and coriander.
