the entry that's crystal clear

i have been mulling about it for the longest time and finally, i decided to go ahead with it. so, it's 9:00am and i am sitting around waiting for my name to be called. i am thumbing through some fashion magazine aptly named trends and spot a must-buy item, but the price tag is a hefty one that is meant for the spending power of aristocrats. damn the cursed capitalism!

anyhoos, when it's my turn, i am ushered into a chamber where they help me don on a scrub of sorts, administer anesthetic drops into both my eyes, and shovel me with painkiller and antibiotic capsules. in case you are still clueless as to what's going on, i am going for an eye corrective surgery, a.k.a. lasik.

up till now, i have always had perfect vision with the help of contact lenses. however, because of my negligence in eyecare (read the entry about seeing eye to eye), my baby blues have been burdened with a smorgasbord of infections and discomfort.

thus, t'is the season to end all future ocular malaise, to which the solution would be laser-assisted stromal in-situ keratomileusis. it's a mouthful, and i am baffled to what it truly means, so let's stick to just calling it lasik.

at the operating theatre, there is this stick-thin nurse whom, though adorned with a big heart, i feel is a little over-the-top. each time i calm myself down, she will be there holding my hand and wheedling me, "it's ok, just relax, take it easy, just relax." even after establishing that i am no longer panicky, she continues harping on her spiel of reassuring words. it doesn't help either when the doctor tells you that he "like[s] the position you're in. stay that way and don't move." how risque is that?  of course, i am just thinking too much. i jest in a bid to mollify myself...

fast forward to two minutes later, the lasik procedure is complete and i am out of the room, being steered into another quarter to recuperate for half an hour. the entire procedure was quick and painless; the only thing that hurt was my pocket. nevertheless, i now have perfect 10/10 vision, the only drawback being having to tape these grotesque plastic receptacles at night to protect my delicate eyes when snoozing away.

now i know how jason feels donning his hockey mask.

did u just have the surgery today??? i dun think u r supposed to expose urself in front of a comupter leh.

anyway, i once wanted to do the surgery, and as i was about to sign the "contract", i saw the line :"every surgery has a risk, so blah blah blah..." and i backed out. So i stuck to my contact lenses, which have been giving me a hard time as well, need to rub the lenses everyday!!!so irritating!

Well, if it helps, you still look good even with those plastic receptacles!! :D

You look cute with those protective lens taped on your face :p

Have a good infection-free recovery. Avoid clubs and pubs for the time being, smoke will not be good for you during this period.

I always wanna do LASIK but my friends told me he noticed that even the docters themselves also don't do it, and they said might have problems when we grow older, thus I never go for it. But anyway, it is just what my friends said, but glad u did it. How much it cost you ?

(fufu) it's almost a week since i've done it, and i must say, this has been one of the greatest miracle technology has bestowed upon human beings. =]

(chaos) thanks for the concern, and many more thanks for the pressies. will blog about it soon!

(cedric) i had the surgery about five days ago, and now it's perfect for me. well, every surgery done has it's fine prints somewhere. there are bound to be risks involved, but in this case, it's minimal, since the procedure is non-invasive.

(candleprince) i should have stuck those to every parto of my body, like my nipples, and my butt, and taken some tongue-in-cheek pictures. haaa.!

(r) i didn't want to tell you cos i wanted to give you a surprise, anyways, i have the contact lenses kept for you already. come take it from me on sunday k?

(jnkl) it sounds scary, but actually it's not. don't be afraid since the technology employed is really very advanced. take a chill pill! =]

(no name) i will, hence my blogging will be less frequent over this month, sorry about that. =[

([n]) then i should hibernate for 3-4 days? i can't!!!! i need some fresh air too... .

(ck) no offense, but are you singaporean? because these days in singapore, all pubs are smoke free already. so no worries about that. nevertheless, i haven't frequented pubs for quite a while... i.e. like a week already! hahha!

iruffcookiedough said...

(kp) editorial? hahah. meaning like america's next top model-esque editorial?

(wubing) i have friends who did it for over 10 years and still they aren't complaining. i guess it's because doctors can't do it to themselves that's why. the procedure is about 2388++. you can find out more by googling shinagawa in singapore.

kOoKy pLuM said...

yeah exactly like ATNM-esque editorial.. like makes me think of futuristic post apocalyptic scene. in a hospital. i could so totally think up a fashion shoot for it... i'm inspired!! =D

Hi,

I've been procrastinating about the LASIK decision since god knows when.. where did u get yours done? I wouldn't mind paying a premium for something this important...

Now that you've mentioned it, why not give it a shot and take some?! haha, you should do it! I'll be waiting. LOL :P

Whoa I had my Lasik done at SNEC too last year! And it costs me $3000 all in all. Where did you do yours? Because I din't have to tape those ugly protectors, I was given a pair of Oakley looking shades as protection instead.

You will soon love your "new" pairs of eyes because its beautiful, to be able to wake up every morning, and see things around you clearly.

Congrats!

(kp) alrighty, i shall do some editorial shoots the next time round. maybe those tongue-in-cheek meets high fashion?

(no name) my blogging sabbatical will be two weeks tops. will get back to blogging asap. =]

(chaos) will do. ^^ meanwhile, enjoy your day and have a great weekend.

iruffcookiedough said...

(anon) i did it at shinagawa, this surgery clinic over at wheelock place. they have the most advanced technology for lasik, as the machines are imported from japan and it's minimally invasive.

(candleprince) i would like that, but i have thrown away those plastic gears. so maybe some others in future perhaps?

(marc) my price tag was a little cheaper. it's 2388++, and i am beginning to appreciate the good sides of having perfect eyesight. =]

yup do it!! it would be soo kool and fun =D

(763092) well, it's actually a birthday gift from shinagawa. that's because i get a special rate from them compared to other patients. can't reveal how much cheaper though. so, i am kinda advertising for them right now.

My love, where have u been? It's freaking 2 weeks!!!!

Rex said...

i am doing fine here man =)
is it really painless???

iruffcookiedough said...

(docras) this has absolutely no relevance to whatsoever i am blogging about, but i do get what you're digging at, boy. haha, let it rest already lah.

(timothy) i'm glad i made your day. =]

(jon_heng_87) hmm, isn't lasik all about treating myopia, astigmatism, presbyopia? i am sure you can find out more info from your surgeon, but i highly recommend shinagawa, as previously mentioned. the procedure was a fleeting 26 second per eye.

iruffcookiedough said...

(x-tin) yeah, let's party this week at butter yeah!!!!

(rex) it's not only painless, but it's also quick. =]
