the entry of insomniac nights

being an avid (read: progressively compulsive) nocturnal creature of greenwich mean time +8, it was an inevitable serpentine route to the following repercussions:

1. a series of outbreak that has led to the bottom half of my face resembling a "connect-the-dots" board game. to remedy the situation, i've plied the affected areas with huge dollops of white viscous acne lotion (courtesy of proactiv) such that it resembles no less a bukkake scene from the notorious japanese hentai.

2. a heavy reliance on sleeping pills. i presume i have experimented with a cocktail of every possible permutation. stilnox, immovane, dormicum, xanax, valium. you name it, i've tried them all, and with different blends as well. i sure as hell know it's bad for health, but when you're tumbling around your bed keeling over from not sleeping yet when the clock strikes three, then four, then five, you kinda get the idea.

3. trying other sorts of remedies to avert dependency on sleeping pills. chamomile tea, hot showers, warm milk, jogging in the wee nights till your knees buckle, popping melatonine (a placebo of sorts for sleeping pills), and even subscribing to the draconian method of staying awake all day to trick the body into sleeping by night, all to no avail.

4. the chinese maxim "worm by day, dragon by night" couldn't be more true in my case. lethargy weighs upon my eyes and weary soul during normal working hours so badly that i can no longer function properly, but when bedtime beckons, my eyes are wide as an eagle.

i am hoping my forthcoming holiday/trip will give my eyes and body a good rest. godspeed!

hi des, very sorry to know that your insomniac problem is getting worse, I believe.

you need to find out what is the root case of your sleepless issue. if it is due to problem, face it and re-solve it.
you are a smart person. sure u know how to due with the problem if you have any.

if it is due to your living style, for exp: over stress at work or too many exciting programs like clubing/party, you need to
know how to handle the stress or change your life style, less programs at night.

don’t work or think any thing is going to make you nervous, panic or uncomfortable 2-3 hours before your bed time.

do some relaxing things like reading, listening to music, yoga, meditation, swimming, etc 2-3 hours before you sleep.
relax your mind and body.

don’t keep pushing yourself to sleep if you can’t. the most you push, the harder you can get into sleep. do something like
reading a book you like or just listening to music. look outside the window. do nothing but relaxing.

drinking alcohol is not a good solution. actually it makes your body and mind nervous, frustrated or even being more negative.

try to practice to relax your mind slowly. don’t rush.

please, try not to take sleeping pills. short term is OK but is not what you are doing with it now. :(

take care

(anonymous) that's quite a naughty (albeit useful at times) suggestion.

(no name) "don’t keep pushing yourself to sleep if you can’t". i think mentally i do push myself to sleep as early as possible, and might have unconsciously added unnecessary pressure to myself. well, i am planning to see a shrink. hope that works out. =] thanks for all the love, no name.

(anon2) that's what i've been subscribing to, but exercise only makes you tired right after the exercise. when it's time to lie then, the sleeplessness budges in again.

(x-tin) aww... i will miss you too. =]

(ne3k) does your dog drool? hehe. =p

(dancer) thanks for the appraisal. i was just checking myself in the mirror to see if my abs workout was really effective. apparently not. =[

Hmm... your problem is getting serious hur... Is it because of your caffine intake? or smoking habit? try not to have any caffine after 4pm and see if it helps.

i was thinking, do you need someone to sleep with you? haha... maybe then you will naturally feel like sleeping and not trouble over it. take care.

Sounds like your biological clock is screwed up, man.

The best way to "reset" your clock is to actually stay up until you're so exhausted, just keep skipping the sleep and tahan until you get to the time that you're actually supposed to be snoozing, say 9pm. *yeah right, 9pm*

then at the desired time, you crash. keep to it for a few days so by then, your body gets the idea. you'll be craving sleep at 9pm in no time, haha.

good luck. if all else fails just call a friend and chit chat until your ear falls off. then sleep.
