as i am by-and-large an amateur photographer in this arena, anyone expecting any scintillating photos will be sorely disappointed. i try my best though: do not flinch hence.
traipsing up yang ming shan is a big deal, if you're taking the stairs. thank god for my taiwanese comrades (/great hosts), i was able to enjoy the scenery from within the comfiness of a car. dinner was at a posh, altitude-freezing restaurant tucked up somewhere in the mountain.
spooky! an unidentified shadow lurks in the corner.
endless flora
lush greenery and white canopies maketh a chic dining affair.
panoramic view of taipei atop yang ming shan.
because this holiday was supposedly a budgeted, cost-cutting matter, most shopping itineraries have been pushed back in favor of the quintessential sight-seeing. temples and shrines became the artifacts of my camera lens instead of latest must-haves from y-3 and dsquared. nevertheless, visiting temples were quite the interesting and enlightening adventure. now, i am equipped with the knowledge of which deity brings fortune, prosperity, good luck, relational opportunities, etc.
the only luxury i afforded myself was a hair-cut by a celebrated stylist. said to have wielded his scissors in the eyes of celebrities like jolin tsai and kenji wu, the experience was quite daunting. first of all, i experienced the longest follicle-washing session in my entire life. the whole routine was peppered with advertorial endorsements, courtesy of aveda. half the time, it wasn't even about the haircut. the concept is a little convoluted for me. there was even a second, and third (!) hair-wash session and even a hand massage thrown in. by the last wash, there was this segment where they wrapped towels doused in hot water around my brain-thinker, using the basin as a receptacle for billowing lavender essential-oil aromatic shitez.
it's my umpteenth time to taipei's 101 building, but i can't help keeping my eyes peeled when i see the mother-f***ing, ginormous tower. and besides, it was countdown to usher in the year 2009. how could i let slip? anyhows, the picture captured below is my favorite shot thus far.
waiting with bated breath for the countdown
the crowd at zhongxiao east road dissipating after the countdown
whilst boarding the plane to my next destination, i overheard the dimwit of a corpulent blondie making a vacuous comment around the lines of "oh i see the pilot! look, he's white! now, i feel safe." i was so close to give that twat a big smack on her head.

you're back! welcome home!
nice shots, though some of them could do with better lightings. =]
it's really really beautiful man that taipei 101...
Wonderful shots, Des. You're off to a good start, Mr "Amateur Photographer".
It's cool to visit a salon and go through a ceremony once in awhile. You should post your celebrity hairstyle at some point, dude.
If Taiwan were for sight-seeing, then I can't wait for the Thailand blog entry, coz that's when I'll hear about your shopping.
hi Des, not so bad photos for a beginner. :)
Cool sceneries! I miss Taiwan so much... but I don't speak Mandarin that well to be able to engage in a long conversation with the locals there. Very few speak decent English! Usually I use functional phrases when ordering food -- but that's it! Hahah! :)
A warm welcome home!
woo updates!
wah 6 trips already...
but its good too soak in the culture instead of going on a maad shopping spree...
nice pics btw...
cheers
des,

nice pic!
I like the first shot of the taipei tower and the fireworks shot!!!
are you sure this is your first time taking professional shots? looks very good. within time, it will get much much better i am sure.
(anon1) thanks! am feeling all rejuvenated all over again! happy new year!
(tyc) mine is the one that is affixed to the camera, so i can't really do much lighting adjustments. maybe next time when i've got more moolah to afford a lighting equip.
(rex) yeah, it looks really nice through the lenses, even nicer than the real thing.
(directflights) i wish there were more to show on bkk, but we were there on limited budgeted, and as much as we wanted to spend, we didn't really get to see lotsa things that were our cup of tea.
nice shots!but i think it would be even nicer with u in e pictures no?
tpe soon!i miss tpe much!
update bkk pics soon!
(singapoor) the food wasn't exactly to my palate the first time i was there. but it wasn't long before i got used to their cuisine.
the photos turned out great because the camera was good, according to my other friends. so i guess the props should go to canon and their manufacturers. =p
(kp) if i had cash, the trip would have been likewise: retail, retail, retail. it is a refreshing break to take in the scenery than just shopping.
(anony2) sorry, i didn't know you were keen to go taiwan, but then again, you posted as incognito. who might you be?
(z) me too, especially the shot of the taipei 101 with the traffic police. ^^
(anon3) yup, it's my first time, and hopefully, it DOES get better and not just a case of fluke.
no more others taiwan pics? =)
yeah, more please!
I thought you'll post something about your hair.. coz you're like talking about it... and i was wondering what style you'll have coz you always have this nice, neat cut.. and it aint that long... btw... wow, so cam-whore pics... shocker
(russ) it's kinda hard to take pics of oneself with a bulky camera. but there will be lots when it comes to bkk! =]
(rex) this one is purely scenic, heh.
(abc) coming up!!! >.<
(seumas) will, it ain't a shocker, cos there will be lotsa cam-whoring in my next entry, so no surprises there. haha. i can't take pictures of myself with the hairstyle because the camera would not allow me to.
good. waiting for next update then =)
i was expecting to see ur face in the pictures la!
nonetheless a good effort!!!
(rex) coming soon rex. =]
(ptmd) i was expecting some cam action too, but too bad, the other cronies of mine weren't that keen in being cam whores. next entry then.
