the entry ... an enlightenment.
to address the brouhaha, i will delete the following entry (you don't see it cos it's deleted) to appease the angered and upset. i will bear in mind to think before i write, and i do apologise to those standing by me, who got intertwined unfortunately, in this mini-saga.

one of the best Christmas gifts to yourself :)
hope you saved our comments for future use though, hahaha.
peace be with you brother.
i do not know what you're written in your previous entry. but, if it's nothing illegal, i think you shouldnt take it off just to appease those @##%#$.
was wondering why I got a headache after reading your blog. do you really use these words in daily conversations?
nosebleed.
Oh wow...
Des des is the wisest!!! hahahahaha.... can i hug you? *blush* =P
C.A.D
Pity, cos ur blog is what you are, not a newspaper.
Thank you.
The wisest move you've made since the entry of that blog.
At least now you dont have to worry about the civil law breathing down your neck. And in the process, breaking your parents' heart.
Cheers!
P/S:-
And yes, do think THRICE before you start hitting those keys again, air-ing your thoughts on topics like religion or race.
I hope you deleted it because you wanted it, not because of the criticisms.
Thanks for the effort, anyway.
Yea, Des.. You are not a politician, ain't a need to upkeep being politically rite~
I guess we need to rest this case. He had a good amount of his enlightenment dose anyway. :)
We will be more than happy to help if you feel that you need it.
Happy New Year :)
Oh, Sorry, I didnt know abt the comment, and I'm going to retract what I've said previously. If it's sensitive and against legal boundaries, pls retract refrain and restraint yourself on it. I bet it's really nasty if you got to be hit hard by Sg Law.
I personally think any racial comments/ religious parody should be taken offline lest it be held as evidence against you, but then again dun let anyone catch u on their cam phone when you spew that type of stuffs.
hugs, you're safe now
good decision.
you've got alot of people who love you here, don't pain them with your irresponsibility.
Singapore ain't ready for such stuff i guess.
I've read your previous entry and i see nothing offensive or wrong about it.
Jeez.
Singaporeans really ought to understand that without airing of views and opinions, things can get nastier than ever :)
What you did was no wrong but respect to your decision in taking down that entry.
Now i'm looking forward to other entries of yours :)
Des, I am glad that u deleted the post. It was a good move with wisdom and also for your own good.
U may have a question why a personal comment did cause a big
storm (actually I do have the same question and I know the answer)?
Maybe we just give ourselves a simple answer; everyone has social responsible and not to talk about sensitive topic in public (even though in a personal blog) is part of our social responsible. Then, we understand why some people are angered and upset about your previous post.
Yesterday is history and today is a gift. Bygone is bygone and let’s look forward for a good year 2009.
Happy New Year to you, your family and everyone.

To the anonymous poster before no name,
Religion is a sensitive issue, regardless of whether you are in Singapore or not. Freedom of expression is a right, but it also has its limitations. No name is right, sensitive issues must be dealt with responsibility.
Surprised you pulled it out but glad you did. I already shared with you my initial view on chat. Didnt see the full extent of the comments it generated though. Missed checking your blog for a few days.
May your journey be more meaningful in 2009.
It is sad to see that the discussion has already ended before anyone with a sane mind can come in to explain the significance of the Communion and the Eucharist. I won't be surprised that few church-goer knows, much less put it in words that can be understood easily.
It is also sad that a few offended individual pressured the removal of blog entry without engaging in meaningful discussion.
The post of Starlight, Gabriel stands out in particular, with threats of civil law action and damages to the parents. I am interested to know which civil law was going to be used and which individual or church was prepared to launch the legal action over the previous blog posting. I also hope that any hurt that the parents may feel are the results of sharing of opinions within the family and not from external pressure from the church or through friend and family to remove the blog post. Using legal threats to silent individual opinions has been one of the biggest complaints of the Singapore politics and it will be sad to see such tactics used in the blogsphere.
None the less, Desmond has decided to close the topic and I respect that. I hope that he does not stop going to Church and is free from any repercussion from the closed topic.
Happy New Year everyone.
Hi CK, polity, religion and racial used to be sensitive topics and not encourage to talk in public. After many years, we can see the changed which Singapore government is more willing to listen to people’s opinions and people are dare to rise up their voices to the government.
Same scenario, we expected people are willing to share and accept others opinions for the other 2 topics in public after the changed from generations to generations. It is for sure. However, any opinion must be given with good intention but not criticizing.
For Des case, I believe he didn’t mean to criticize but just gave his personal opinion.
However, since the post did upset others, to be a responsible person, he did a right thing to apologise and delete the post.
About the civil law issue, I think it is too extreme. We are not in the ages that when people said the earth was not the central of the universe and must be burned to dead.
I am quite upset about this civil law suggestion. It sounds like whoever has difference opinion with others, must be silent.

(anonymous1) i have no wish to revisit the past as it's history. but i don't understand what do you mean by best christmas gift. because i deleted it?
(anonymous2) i have deleted it because it's two-fold. i don't wish my comment page to become a line-of-war between the staunch and those who stand on my side, simply because i don't wish for that for happen. secondly, i also feel that it's time to move on to other topics that concern me more, rather than to be stuck on that entry still discussing about the for or against of it.
i do understand where you're coming from because i can be equally hard-headed as you are, but sometimes, being tough is one thing, whilst being tough and knowing when to retreat is quite another. i am indicating that i am a coward in anyway (nor should you be), but "the best form of attack is defense."
(nosebleed) i don't, because i don't spend ten minutes cocktail-ing a sentence to talk, whilst i have plenty time to process my thought when writing. =]
(cad) a virtual hug will suffice! =] cos i am now overseas!!
(ac) it's making a decision which doesn't affect my lifestyle or cramp my thinking in anyways. and maybe singapore isn't ready yet, maybe in another 10 years' time?
(starlight) i don't understand what do you mean by the wisest move i have made so far.
your words come across as cut-throat threatening, using words like civil law and my parents time and again to silence my thoughts. what about yourself? have you reflected upon your own bearings? you have been nothing but a bad representation of the catholic community, employing the usual threat tactics, and whatsoever.
yes, i might not appreciate church goings as much as you do, but at least i am not a hypocrite and i speak my thoughts accordingly.
i like to redress that i took off the entry not because i was afraid of legal/civil affairs that you mentioned i might be embroiled in, but because i didn't want my comment page to become another flaming zone. and honestly, it's simply time to move on to something of more interest.
i have mentioned in this entry (shortest ever, so it should be easy to comprehend) that "i will bear in mind to think before i write", so don't hide behind "kind" words and remind me to think THRICE before writing. what are you trying to prove again?
i think i am pretty much done with you, for now.
(anonymous with lotsa theories) thanks for your support once again, but as to how i am dealing with the issue and the reasons, please read the above replies. fingers don't wanna type same issues again.
(no name) appreciate your words of wisdom. like i mentioned, there's being tough and then there's being tough and knowing when to retreat.
that sentence about the previous and today sounds so familiar. is it from kungfu panda?
(leo) am sorry that i missed your party, and i am sure it would have been great. anyways, here's a happy 2009 to you in advance.
(ck) i usually reply to three comments and click on the "publish your comment", and move on to the next three comments. so i was quite surprised when i saw your comments basically echoed my thoughts, and what my reply to starlight was. great minds DO think alike.
(no name) if you could re-read the entry, you would notice that i addressed about deleting the entry to appease the angered and upset.
however, when i mentioned about apologising, i actually meant apologising to the other side of the party, the folks who stand by me, like you and ck, because you guys got involved in it as well.
anyways, have a happy 2009! =]
hi Des, for your 1st reply: not, they are only my thoughts. actually we have the same thought: “changed from generations to generations” and “maybe singapore isn't ready yet, maybe in another 10 years' time”. :)
for your 2nd reply: I got it now. :)
wish u have a nice vacation. i am going oversea for vacation too from this coming afternoon.
Happy New Year to you too.

Reader Expect Xtraordinary..
The bottomline here is that some issues are really needed to be dealt with sensitivity and responsibility.
You are free to air your opinions about the topics, but do not use avenues that you are sure that those affected may see.
In other words, what you don't know won't hurt you.
Call me a hypocrite, but that's life. We talk about these sensitive issues too, but we never say it in public. We don't want to hurt others too, so just keep it to ourselves.
Happy new year!
Des, I didn't read about your earlier post. Why isit so political? Arghhh... anyway i miss partying with you :)
just a passerby passing though. a pity that you deleted it and had to post a semi-pc answer on why you did it. if people expect respect for religion, they should also respect freedom of speech.
(reader Expect Xtraordinary) am here in a country where most ppl are yellow skinned. make a guess?
(x-tin) i miss partying with you too! will be back soon and we can grab a drink real soon! happy new year in advance!
(anonymous) if you read my above answers, it's kinda along the same line of not wanting this page to be a zone of war and not moving on from there, that's why. =]
